Hellcat PRO By Springfield Armory! The Hellcat with CAPACITY!

Springfield Armory just released this CCW pistol... The Hellcat PRO! The Hellcat Pro has finally been released and has some features worth taking a look at... Yes it is also BIGGER!

As you may know, the compact CCW and EDC market has been HOT for the past several years. Companies have been consistently improving on designs to increase ergonomics, capacity, etc. It sounds like Springfield Armory listened, and unleashed this new Hellcat PRO.

I am a big fan of micro compacts as an effective Everyday Carry "EDC" firearm. The next size up is the XL sized micro compact. Typically the XL sized EDC has a longer slide, longer barrel and commonly features an optic cut on the slide. Springfield Armory has released an XL and Bigger version of the Hellcat known as the Hellcat Pro. The Hellcat Pro has a standard 15+1 round capacity, co-witness night/day sights, a 3.7" hammer forged 1/10 barrel, a longer grip and many more features.

Now... to the written review!

Quality Impressions -

Overall quality seems generally well built. The barrel is a hammer forged and the slide has a Melonite finish as well as the barrel.

Comfort and Ergonomic Impressions -

This is where the Hellcat Pro REALLY excels! The Hellcat Pro addresses some of my biggest gripes with the Original Hellcat series... and that is the stubby, beefy and blocky grip. I am not a big fan of firearms where my pinky hangs off, or when I am reliant on a magazine extension for a firm grip. The Hellcat Pro has a grip that is about an inch longer than the smaller models. This gives me a full handfull of pew pew goodness and feels GREAT! Magazine release seems to be located in a great spot... However unfortunately the slide release lever is in the same spot as the smaller Hellcat models, which means my thumb kept holding that lever down. This is simply a matter of training with the firearm that you intend to carry.

Performance

The Hellcat Pro ate EVERYTHING that we put through the gun and asked for more. We fired several hundred rounds through this firearm and used a variety of ammunition between cheap steel cased ammo, to quality self defense rounds.

The Negatives...

The only negative that comes to mind is the location of the magazine release lever. My particular grip is very choked up and high on the frame. This puts my thumbs right on top of the slide release lever and often keeps the slide from locking back after the last round.

Overall Experience and Satisfaction

I feel confident to add this firearm to my CCW rotation. It has been reliable throughout our tests, feels ergonomically right, and has an incredible capacity of 15+1 rounds with a FLUSH fitting magazine. Springfield addressed many issues and listened to their customers, because it looks like they knocked this one out of the park.
